Choice: Best Irish Pub (June 07)
Scottsdale is fortunate to have...the Tilted Kilt. We like them all (pubs) but the Kilt is our current favorite after it threw a rousing St. Patrick's Day bash. Kilt owner Kerry Phelps has got the right vibe going in his spacious pub. The Tilted Kilt Ale is good, the pints are reasonably priced and the servers are lovely colleens wearing wee kilts. If that's not enough, the Kilt has two dozen televisions tuned to sports, although we've never seen the Irish rugby team on the tube.

Mark DiMartino is a trailblazer. In his early twenties, he became the first independent restaurateur to open an eatery in a hotel, which nowadays is commonplace. DiMartino's latest creation is The Tilted Kilt, inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. The main attractions are the Tilted Kilt Girls and the 24 premium beers on tap. The (TK) motto is "A Cold Beer Never Looked So Good," and I heartily agree. Beautiful women wearing sexy tartan outfits offering up the friendliest service in town. What could be better!(more)

The
quirky humor that went into the planning
of this vibrant take on Irish-Scottish
pubs is evident in the décor and
menu as well as the sexy tilted kilts
worn by the captivating servers. Traditional
amenities such as darts and a pool tables
are complemented by Celtic artifacts,
pop culture memorabilia and an array
of complimentary help-yourself barrels,
each stocked with a different flavor
and shape of pretzel. (more)

There are 24 beers on draft here, including Guinness, Bass, Pilsner Urquell and Boddington's, and unlike The Freakin' Frog, a full bar, as well. The menu is simple, your basic pub-grub slate, but well conceived, as is the food. If there is a restaurant in town that isn't out of its depth, this is the place. My favorite dish here, hands down, are these thick, perfectly crunchy onion rings, coated in a cornmeal batter and accompanied by a cayenne-pepper ranch dressing. White corn chips come in a lazy Susan with guacamole, salsa, chilies and sour cream, a caloric extravaganza sure to make anyone shout for a drink. (more)

One of Tempe's hottest new bar/restaurants isn't on Mill Avenue, or anywhere
near the Arizona State University
campus. It’s on Warner Road in south Tempe.
It’s The Tilted Kilt and it opened May 23 in a previously
sleepy area near Warner and Kyrene roads across the street
from The Home Depot. The Tilted Kilt has one other location,
inside the swinging Rio hotel and casino in Las Vegas. It'sbooming,
with waits at weekday lunchtimes and happy hours as well
as on weekend evenings.
